Through the Looking-Glass ~part 3~

Hello everyone! I’m going to write about stories of the book!

 Every time Alice tries to go to the top of the hill, she fails to do. She decides to try again. And she fails again. Instead of reaching the hill, she comes upon a large flower-bed and finds that flowers can speak! Through conversation with flowers, she knows that there is the Red Queen (one of chessmen). So, Alice tries to meet her. Flowers advise Alice that she should walk the other way if she wants to meet the Red Queen. Alice thinks it is strange, but she tries it. Then, she can meet the Red Queen! At the same time, Alice can reach the top of hill! From there, she can see all directions over the country and finds that the country looks like a chessboard. She wishes she were one of chessmen. To her surprise, the Red Queen tells her that she can be the White Queen’s Pawn. The Red Queen kindly teaches Alice how Alice should move as the Pawn and the Red Queen leaves there. Now, Alice’s adventures as the Pawn has just begun!

Through the Looking-Glass ~part2~

Hello! I’m going to write about more stories in Through the Looking-Glass.

 

After Alice entered the Looking-glass room, she finds the pictures on the wall seem to be alive. What is more, clock on the chimney-piece has got the face of a little old man and grins at her.

To her surprise, the chessmen are walking!!

Then, Alice wonders what the other places in the Looking-glass world is like, so she decides to go to the garden first. After she gets out from the house, she finds a hill. She wants to go to the top of the hill to see the garden far better, so she tries to go.

However, she somehow can’t go there. Every time she tries to go to the hill, she goes back to the house!!

Through the Looking-Glass

Hello, everyone! Now I read a new book, Through the Looking-Glass written by Lewis Carroll. A subtitle of this book is this: And What Alice Found There. Yes, this book is a sequel to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. I’m going to write about this book from this post.

One day, Alice is sitting in a corner of the great armchair, half talking to herself and half asleep. While Alice is doing this, Kitty, a black kitten of Alice, plays with the ball of wool Alice tried to wind up. And it is perfectly undone when Alice notices that. She scolds Kitty, holds it up to the Looking-glass and says to it, “if you’re not good, I’ll put you through into Looking-glass House.” Then, the glass is beginning to melt away, and Alice is through the glass and jumps down into the Looking-glass room!!

What will happen to Alice in Looking-glass world?! See you next!

Alice~ part 5~ & A Letter to Alice

Hello! These days, it has become cold, so be careful not to catch a cold!

In the court, there are the King and Queen of Hearts, the White Rabbit and many creatures. The accusation is the following: the Knave of Hearts stole the tarts the Queen of Hearts made. And some witnesses come. The first witness is Hatter and the second is Duchess’s cook. But, these witnesses are completely useless. Then, next witness’ name is called. That is ALICE! The King and the Queen start discussing but Alice thinks what they say is nonsense, so she complains about it. The Queen says, “off with her head!” but nobody moves. “who cares for you? You’re nothing but a pack of cards!” says Alice. At this the whole pack of rise up into the air, and come flying down upon her. She tries to beat them off, and finds herself lying on the bank. These stories are Alice’s curious dream. Alice tells her sister her dream.

Alice ~part 4~

Hi! I’m going to write about more Alice’s adventure.

Alice comes to play croquet with the Queen. However, this croquet is completely strange. The croquet balls were live hedgehogs, and the mallets are living flamingoes, and the soldiers have to double themselves up and stand on their ands and feet to make the arches. Even during the game, the Queen says, “off with his head!” so the soldiers have to leave off being arches. And at last, there are no arches and the players, except the King, the Queen and Alice, left. Then the Queen says to Alice, “have you seen the Mock Turtle yet?” and Alice’s answer is “no,” so Alice comes to visit the Mock Turtle with a Gryphon, a kind of the Queen’s pet. Alice, the Mock Turtle and the Gryphon enjoy talking and so on. Suddenly, “the trial’s beginning!” is heard in the distance, so Alice and the Gryphon rush to the court…

What will happen to Alice next?!

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland ~part 3~

Hello, everyone! I'm sad that the fall semester starts, but also happy that I study with you again😊

I'm going to write about stories in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

After Alice manages to get out from the hall, she meets many strange characters. For example, she meets the Caterpillar, the Duchess, the Cheshire Cat, the Hatter and so on. At the March Hare's house, March Hare, the Hatter and the Dormouse holds a tea-party. Surprisingly, it's always tea-time there!!🍰

At last, Alice reaches the castle of the Queen of Hearts. Soldiers in the castle are made of playing cards. And Alice realizes the White Rabbit is there!

In fact, the Queen is always in bad mood and trys to behead soldiers or other people (card).😱

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland ~part 2~

Hello! The summer vacation is over. I’m so sad…. I wish the vacation lasted forever!! Anyway, I’m going to write about more stories of Alice!

Alice becomes small enough to go through the door, but poor Alice! She forgets bringing the key. It is still on the table! Alice is too small to get the key on the table. What should she do. Then, she finds a cake with the words “EAT ME”. She eats it. And to her surprise, her body becomes big! But this body doesn’t allow her to go through the door…. And then, the White Rabbit holding gloves and the fan appears again. He is surprised at her, drops the gloves and the fan and run away. She has no idea what to do and begin crying. Then, she notices her body becomes small again because of the Rabbit’s fan she holds. And next, she falls into the salt water made of Alice’s tear. She somehow goes out of water and the hall. And next adventure begins.

What will happen next?! See you at college!

Alice's Adventure in Wonderland

Hi, everyone! From this time, I’m going to write about Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Alice is beginning to get tired of sitting by her sister on the bank. And then, a White Rabbit with pink eyes runs close by Alice. Surprisingly, the Rabbit speaks! Alice who is interested in it start following it and falls into a large rabbit-hole! It’s very deep one. At last the fall is over and she reaches a low hall. There is a table, and a key is on it. However, the door the key matches is too small to go through for Alice. She has no idea what to do. When she back to the table, there is a bottle with the words “DRINK ME”. Alice drinks it. And suddenly, her body becomes small!!

Alice’s adventure just begins. What will happen to her next?

Animal Farm ~part 2~

Hello! This time, I’m going to write about a diary entry for a Boxer.

After the windmill broke because of the Battle of the Windmill, we start rebuilding the windmill. I want to see it well under way before I reach the age for retirement. In addition to this, maybe I have more power than other animals, so I have to work for them. It’s tough work, but I will work harder! And, Napoleon may depend on me! So, I will work for him, too! Napoleon is right!

I think Boxer is one of poor characters in this book. I was sad when I read that Boxer died.

Animal Farm

From this time, I’m going to write about Animal Farm.

I think most of you have already read this book, so I won’t write story line and will do Special Topics of summer assignment.

I’m going to give characters advice. I want to give advice to every animal except pigs.

PLEASE, NOTICE! Pigs are not good. Pigs are evil!! They use you to spend their life comfortably. In addition to this, they add some words to the Seven Commandments to change commandments! If you keep working like this, you will die at the end! So everyone, notice please!!

I think this book’s ending is dreadful…

My Favorite Scene in MOMO

Hello, everyone!

After Momo and her friends start their adventure, men in grey interrupt Momo’s attempt to prevent Momo and her friends from getting time back from men in grey.

Momo has no idea what to do. Then, one tortoise appears. Her name is Cassiopeia. She takes Momo to Nowhere House, where Professor Hora, Cassiopeia’s owner and a man having special power, live. Thanks to Professor Hora and Cassiopeia, Momo is able to get time back from men in grey!

Now, people don’t have to keep working from morning to night. Momo and her friends spend their time happily.

I’m going to write about my favorite scene. The situation is this: Cassiopeia helps Momo in many ways, but one day, Momo loses her! A few hours later, Momo meets her again! Following is my favorite scene.

“HERE I AM AGAIN” the words in Cassiopeia’s shell says. (In fact, Cassiopeia shows words in her shell.) Momo sees Cassiopeia and becomes happy. She kisses Cassiopeia on the nose several times. Cassiopeia responded with two rather pink words, “STEADY ON”

How cute Cassiopeia is! I’m happy to see that Momo meets her again!

Men in Grey ~part 2~

Hello! This time, I’m going to write about more details of men in grey in MOMO.

Men in grey collect time from human and depend on the time they collect from human.

In other words, they steal time from human in order to live.

How do they collect time? They have human save their time.

So, they tell human like this: “work faster and stick to essentials. And at last, you will have plenty of time, and will lead comfortable life.”

People start working faster. They keep working from morning to night.

Surprisingly, the more people save time the less they have. Their life becomes monotonous…. Except some people. Momo and their friends.

Momo’s adventure start. She tries to get time back from men in grey!

What happens next??

Men in Grey and My Favorite Character

Hello! Do you enjoy your summer vacation? I came back to my hometown a week ago and enjoy spending my time with my family. Anyway, I’m going to write about more stories in MOMO.

Momo is not rich but enjoys her life with her nice friends in the city. However, somebodies change their and citizens’ life day by day. They are men in grey. They are dressed from head to foot in grey suits, and even their faces are grey. They smoke small grey cigars. They can make themselves so inconspicuous that people overlook them or forget ever having seen them…

Men in grey are important characters in this book, so I’ll write about what men in grey do and why people have to change their lives in next blog.

And from now on, I’m going to write about my favorite character, Beppo Roadsweeper. He is Momo’s one of special friends. As his nickname describes, his job is sweeping roads. He is sincere and thoughtful. And when he speaks something, he takes as much time as he can because he thinks all the world’s misfortunes come from the countless untruths, which people told because of haste and carelessness. I like his words and his way of thinking.

Momo's Special Ability

Hello! I’m going to write about more stories in MOMO. Last time, I told you that Momo was good at listening. So, I will write detail of it.

Momo’s way of listening is different from other people. Ordinarily, when people listen to someone’s trouble or worries, they say anything or ask questions that put such ideas into someone’s head. However, Momo simply sits there and listens with attention and sympathy, fixing people with her big, black eyes. And then, people suddenly find the way of solving their problems.

In this way, Momo helps many people. Now, Momo is indispensable for people living around there.

I think her ability is special and great.

MOMO

Hello! How is your summer vacation? Today, I’m going to write about new book, MOMO, written by Michael Ende.

There is a city which was once fine and big. The city has amphitheaters made by stone, and thousands of years ago, people enjoyed watching plays there. However, now, these amphitheaters are ruined because of wind, rain, heat and cold. Momo lives in one of these amphitheaters. She has no parents and relatives. In addition, she is so thin that people cannot estimate how old she is. She is good at listening. So, many people visit her.

This is situation of this book. What will happen to her? I will write more story from next post.

My Favorite Character

Hello, everyone! As I said before, I’m going to write about my favorite character in Daddy-Long-Legs.

My favorite character is Jerusha Abbott. She has wonderful imaginations and is a good writer. In addition, she has a humor. She has a lot of charm. She is interested in everything, so she learns many things in a college and out of the college. And I think she is strong. She never changed her mind once she decided to do something. I want to be like her.

I think Daddy-Long-Legs is a very nice and interesting book. I strongly recommend you! If you like, read it during summer vacation!

Jerusha Abbott, a heroine in this book, is orphan and has great imagination. She is oldest in the asylum and has to go out there. However, fortunately, a kind trustee comes to support Jerusha and let her go college. The trustee believes that Jerusha has originality, and he is planning to educate her to be a writer. He kindly pays he school fees, and in return, Jerusha will write him letters every month. She will write about what she experienced, what she learned and so on. So, every month, Jerusha writes the trustee, Daddy-Long-Legs, many letters…

The Difference between Japan and Britain

Hello, everyone! This time, I’m going to write about the difference between Japanese culture and British culture.

In one story in Mary Poppins, Jane, Michael and Mary Poppins go Christmas shopping!

So, what is Christmas shopping? I’ll tell you.

In Japan, many people spend their time with their family, friends, a girlfriend or a boyfriend not in Christmas Day but in Christmas Eve, right?

However, in Britain, people go Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve! They buy Christmas presents for their family and something they will need on Christmas Day. So, in Christmas Eve, most shops are crowded with a lot of people!!

It’s interesting culture, isn’t it?

Now, I finish reading Mary Poppins, so in next blog, I’m going to write about a last book!

John and Barbara's Story

This time, I’m going to write about John and Barbara’s, the twins, story in Mary Poppins. This story is a little sad story.

One afternoon, the sunlight pours into the room where the babies are lying. “I say, move over! You’re right in my eyes.” John says to the sunlight. “Sorry!” says the sunlight. Yes, John and Barbara can talk with the sunlight. They can also understand what birds, wind and others say. Then, the Starling comes and talk with the twins. The twins say, “we wonder why Michael and Jane can’t understand what the Starling and others say.” “Because they’ve grown older,” explains Mary Poppins. The twins can’t believe and say they won’t become like Michael and Jane when the twins grow up. After some conversations, the Starling flies out of the room…

The Twins has their first birthday. The Starling comes back to the room and speaks to Barbara. But she says only “Be-lah-belah!” Then the Starling anxiously says to John, “What’s my name? What’s my name?” However, John says only “Er-umph!” “So, it’s happened,” the Starling says to Mary Poppins. She nods. “It’ll seem funny without them, though. Always liked talking to them—so I did. I shall miss them,” says the Starling and flies out of the room.

My favorite quotation

Hello! I’m going to write about my favorite quotation in the story I wrote in last post.

“She (Mrs. Corry) broke off two of her fingers and gave one each to John and Barbara. And the oddest part of it was that in the space left by the broken-off fingers two new ones grew at once.”

How amazing and surprising! This scene seems to be a little scary, but it isn’t horror. In fact, her fingers taste sugar. I want to try eating.

“When she (Mary Poppins) took her hand away they saw that she was sticking the Gingerbread Stars to the sky. As each one was placed in position it began to twinkle furiously, sending out rays of sparkling golden light.”

This is also an amazing situation, isn’t it? These stars are made of paper. I want to see this scene. This must be beautiful!

Next, I want to write another story in Mary Poppins!

Curious Shop and Gingerbread Stars

One day, Mary Poppins goes shopping with Jane, Michael and the twins. They visit many shops. Finally, they go to buy the gingerbread. They arrive at one shop, which is the most curious shop Jane and Michael have ever seen. In the shop, there is the counter that run around three side of the shop. And in the counter are rows of dark, dry gingerbread. Each slab has paper stars. The owner of the shop is Mrs. Corry whose daughter are Annie and Fannie. They buy thirteen slabs of gingerbread there. When they go out from the shop, and Jane and Michael look behind them, they find the shop is not there!

At night, Mary Poppins comes to Jane’s and Michael’s room and goes to the chest of drawers and the wardrobe where children keep the paper stars. Then, Mary Poppins goes out from the house. Outside of the house, there are Mrs. Corry, Annie and Fannie. They have two ladders, pail of glue and a paint-brush and go to the top of the hill. Then, children see a most amazing sight. Mrs. Corry climbs one of ladders and slaps the glue with a brush against the sky. And Mary Poppins also climbs the other and sticks the Gingerbread Stars to the sky. And stars begin to twinkle!!

A Magical Compass

Hello! I’m going to write about one of amazing stories in my book.

One day, Mary Poppins, Jane, Michael and the twins in the perambulator go to the Park. While they are walking, Mary Poppins finds a shiny thing on the path, so make Michael pick it up and bring it to her. It is a small round sort of box with a glass top and on the glass an arrow marked. Inside, a round disc that seemed to be covered with letters. Mary Poppins take the little box and says it is the compass to go round the world with. But, how can they go round the world with it? People usually go round the world in a ship or an airplane.

Then, Mary Poppins says the word “North!” And the letters slides around the arrow. Suddenly, the atmosphere seems to grow bitterly cold and to Jane’s and Michael’s surprise, they find themselves at the North Pole!! Next time, Mary Poppins says “South!” and they are in jungle!

In this way, they go round the world with compass!

A Diary of Jane

Hello! I intended to write about one of stories in the book, but I change my mind. Today, I’m going to write a diary as if I were Jane.

Today, I went to Mr. Wigg’s house to tea. Michael and I were looking forward to meeting Mr. Wigg.

But when we arrived at his house, we couldn’t find him in his room at first. And then, to our surprise, Mr. Wigg was rolling and bobbing on the ceiling like balloon!! He looked so comic that Michael and I couldn’t help laughing! And, we were filled with Laughing Gas and went up in the air like Mr. Wigg!! How funny it was! Mary Poppins also went up by herself without laughing! And we started to tea.

A few minutes later, Mary Poppins said “it is time to go home”, so Mr. Wigg, Michael and I were no longer filled with the Gas, and a wonderful tea time was over…

If only we could be in the air forever!!!

I want to go up in the air like them!! How do you think? See you in the next post!!

Laughing Gas

  One day, Jane, Michael and Mary Poppins are invited to tea by Mr. Wigg, a Mary Poppins’s uncle.

  When they arrive at and enter his room, they hear a huge voice. Jane and Michael try to look for the owner of the voice, but they cannot find. Then, as Mary Poppins starts speaking, she looks up the ceiling. Two children look up too. To their surprise, Mr. Wigg is there!! He is rolling and bobbing on the ceiling like a balloon! According to him, if he laugh on the particular day, he is filled with Laughing Gas and up on the air.

  Jane and Michael cannot help laughing at Mr. Wigg and are rolling over on the floor. And then suddenly, they go up and reach Mr. Wigg! They are filled with Laughing Gas!! Mary Poppins unwillingly goes up without laugh and they start having tea on the ceiling…

Mary Poppins

Hello! I start reading a next book, Mary Poppins, so I am going to write about this book from this time.

When east wind blows, Mary Poppins comes to the Mr. Banks’ house to take care of Mr. Banks and Mrs. Banks children, Jane, Michael and the twins. However, Mary Poppins is not an ordinary nanny. She does most ordinary events in extraordinary way. She slides up banisters and pulls many things out of her empty carpet bag…

What will happen to children!? What will Mary Poppins do!?

A Special Party for Pooh

  One day, Christopher Robin decides to hold a special party for Pooh. That is because Pooh was a brave and clever bear in the rainy day. Christopher Robin asks Owl to tell the party to other fellows. The day comes. Pooh, Piglet and other friends come to Christopher Robin’s house, and the party begins. In the party, Christopher Robin gives Pooh a Special Pencil Case. There are pencils in it marked “B” for Bear, and pencils marked “HB” for Helping Bear, and pencils marked “BB” for Brave Bear. There are also useful things in the case. The fun party finishes. They all say “Good-bye” and “Thank you” to Christopher Robin. Pooh and Piglet walk home together in the golden evening.

  If I gave Pooh presents in the party, I would choose a lot of pots of honey for presents. That is because Pooh loves honey very much and I want to see Pooh’s smiley face.

  I read all stories of Winnie-the-Pooh, so I am going to write about another book from next post. If you want to know other stories of Pooh, please ask me! I will tell you other funny stories😊

Clever Pooh

  One day, it rains, rains and rains. It doesn’t seem to stop. Piglet’s house is completely surrounded by water. Piglet wants to ask someone for help, so he decides to write something in a bottle and throws it. He writes this. “HELP! PIGLIT(ME) IT’S ME PIGLIT, HELP HELP!”

  When the rain begins, Pooh sleeps. He feels cold in his dream, and suddenly, he finds himself in the water! He escapes from his room and sits on the branch of his tree with ten pots of honey. He keeps eating and eats all! One day, he finds the bottle in the water. The bottle contains a piece of paper, and something is written on it. However, Pooh can’t read it, so he decides to go to Christopher Robin’s house. But, how can Pooh go there? Clever Pooh comes up with an idea. He rides on an empty pot! After Pooh reaches there, Christopher Robin reads a piece of paper and finds that Piglet is in danger! How can a boy and a bear go to Piglet’s house to help him? Pooh comes up with an idea again. He suggest they use an umbrella! So Christopher Robin opens his umbrella and put it point downwards in the water. They ride on it and help Piglet!! How clever and brave Pooh is!

Eeyore's Tail

 This time, I’m going to write about one of Pooh’s stories.

 One day, the old grey donkey, Eeyore, stands in a part of the forest gloomily. Then, Pooh comes there and finds that Eeyore has no tail! Pooh starts looking for Eeyore’s tale. He keeps walking and finally reaches the Hundred Acre Wood where Owl lives. Owl knows something of something, so Pooh decides to ask him for help. On the door of Owl’s house, there is a nice bell-rope. Owl is proud of it and shows Pooh it. Pooh thinks he has seen it somewhere. He finally finds what it is! Yes, it is Eeyore’s tail!!

 Eeyore is very happy to see that his tail is on his hip and Pooh is also happy to find his friend’s tale.

 I was surprised that bell-rope was Eeyore’s tale. In addition, I thought it was kind to Pooh to find Eeyore’s tail.

Winnie-the-Pooh

Long long ago, there is a bear named Winnie-the-Pooh in part of a big forest. He spends his carefree lives every day.  He has wonderful friends like Christopher Robin, Piglet, Eeyyore and so on.Pooh has  curiosity and is always wondering about something. Also, he always try to do something. He sometimes succeeds but sometimes fail…

In fact, this Pooh's stories are made by Christopher Robin's father. He tells these stories for Christopher Robin.

This is the setting of Winnie-the-Pooh.

This time, Pooh tries to get honey on a tree and does his best. However, it is difficult for him, so he fails.

I'd like to write about more Pooh's cute and funny sories from next post.

Self-introduction

  Hello! My name is Shiori Shibahara. Please call me "Shibachan" if you like. 

  I 'm from Gunma, and I live by myself in Kyoto now. I live in apartment near the college. My family is my mother, father and me. I have no sisters or brothers. My hobby is singing songs and dancing, so I often sing many songs in my house. In addition, I join a dance team in Takasaki, one of cities in Gunma. Takasaki has a dance festival in October, so I practice for it. The dance includes karate, hip-hop, jazz dance and so on. I also like watching TV and musicals. I'm a member of Hyakunin Issyu club in this college. I have played Hyakunin Issyu since I was a high school student. 

  I'm so glad to study English with AES A class members, and I want to talk with you a lot!!
